Participants of the GNH3 conference gather at the banks of the MekongRiver in Nongkhai to celebrate Loy Krathong Festival.
Water represents the connection between people. During Loy Krathong festival flowers and candles ('krathongs') are floated into the river. The MekongRiver springs from the Tibetan plateau and streams into the South China Sea in Vietnam.
The MekongRiver forms the natural connection between the Himalaya's and Tibetan plateau, southern China, Burma/Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The Mekong region shares the pressure of modernization and globalization with Bhutan.
Loy Krathong festival can be interpreted as a way to thank the Goddess of the River and to seek pardon for any abuse of 'Mae Kong' = Mother Kong.
With Gross National Happiness we unite forces to protect Nature, Humanity and Peace.
